I LOVE these boots AND they actually fit my 17.5" Calves!
By Denise M. Newton
I purchased these boots last week from Amazon.com for much less than they were @ Macy's ON SALE. I have to say that I have 17 1/2" calves and these DO fit albeit with patience, minor discomfort and effort.
BACKGROUND on my search for boots to fit a fuller calf: For YEARS I've been searching for a nice boot that was not that dreaded stretchy fabric or man-made material. Last year I purchased boots from 6PM.com for those with wider calves but unless I wanted to spend upwards of $200, the selection was a little limited and many of the boots had at least a 2" heel on them and I wanted more of a riding boot style. This year, I was thrilled to learn of the variety of options for those with fuller calves. I could actually purchase a nice looking LEATHER riding boot from a reputable designer. I had previously purchased Bandolino's Caloua-W Wide Calf Boots in Cognac from Amazon.com (for about the same price as the Etienne's). I did try on the right foot of the Bandolino boot and found that it eventually zipped up with a little struggle (they too boast a 17" calf circumference) and was not certain I was going to keep them. In the meantime, Macy's was having a buy more, save more sale and I wanted a black pair so I went into my local Macy's, tried on several of the so called wide calf boots, some were actually too large around the calf or they'd fit and it would appear I had elephantiasis around the ankles. I ended up purchasing the black pair of the Bandolino boot and found that they too zipped just a little but I decided to give them a try. As I do with all of my shoe purchase I spent a couple of days trying them on in the house to be certain they would fit to my liking before deciding whether or not to return them. I found that after experiencing some discomfort (a day or so) wearing the Bandolino's they actually did loosen up some and fit perfectly; a downside however is the elephant ankles to some degree but I've worn them and cannot return then so they'll have to do. As a result I began looking for another boot that would not produce this effect and stumbled upon the Etienne's after combing through several user reviews. With the Etienne, the first day of trying these on I got them half way up my calf even though the calf area appeared to have extra room in them even though they were not fully zipped. The next day, experiencing some discomfort and concerned about cutting off circulation, I had them on for about 5-10 minutes and was able to get them up a little further with some effort. Today, I tried them on again, day 3, and was able to get them up further with effort albeit a little tight with about a 1/4-1/2" extra room in them so I'd imagine they will loosen up a little more. I will continue this process before deciding to wear them outside of the house. I noticed that these boots have extra room in the calf area when I could not zip them up all the way. The leather is a quality leather but a bit stiff at first but it will loosen up as leather tends to do. I hope this helps someone; I do love the boot it is quite attractive and if you are willing to experience some minor discomfort at first then I say give them a try. Oh and no elephantiasis around the ankles yet and I hope this does not change.

not so much what I thought they were going to be
By Oso's girl
These boots were not wide calf. I have 16.5 inch calves and these did not zip up at all. Also,
the quality of the leather and the look of the boot was much more attractive on the photo on
Amazon. I wear a size 9 and the foot portion does fit true to size, just the part about the wide
calf was not true.
I did read other comments before ordering these, and now have realized that others were right,
these are not wide calf boots. I measured the calf openings and they are at best 15 inches.
I returned these immediately.

Absolutely PERFECT!
By Katherine
Normal Shoe Size: 9
Personal Calf Circumference: 16.5"
I purchased: 10 M US in the WIDE Chip Riding Boot
Let me first dismiss what others have said about these boots not being wide calf--they most certainly are! At 21 years old, I have finally bought and KEPT my first pair of tall boots. They fit beautifully and I still have room to tuck in skinny jeans or leggings. Upon first trying them on, I thought the arch might have been a bit narrow, but since these boots are genuine leather, within even just a day of wearing them, they are comfortably worn to the shape of my foot. Also, the black/banana bread color combination is beautiful!!
